Coombe Hill Manor has installed their first Magic Table alongside creating a sensory room with immersive technology to help residents living with dementia in their newly refurbished Auguste Dementia suite.
The Magic Table is an award-winning innovation from the Netherlands, which is renowned for its cutting-edge approach to dementia care. The technology contains a series of games for people living with mid-to-late stage dementia. It has been designed to encourage instinctive participation, inviting engagement and stimulating a level of physical and social activity rarely seen in people living with dementia in the later stages of their journey.
Signature at Coombe Hill Manor, a care home based in Kingston-Upon-Thames, aims to ensure their residents living with dementia are catered for through personalised interaction and care. From the heads of department to the carers and activity team, Coombe Hill Manor is passionate in providing high-quality services and delivering excellence in end-of-life care.
The Magic Table creates a fun, safe environment for all residents. The games are formulated with the intention to trigger a sense of reminiscence among players in order to encourage stimulation socially, cognitively and physically. Interactive lights are projected on to any table, in the form of games, including catching butterflies, sweeping leaves and popping bubbles.
The sensory room, designed by Dr Anke Jakob, design researcher, practitioner and leading expert in the design and textile of sensory rooms at Kingston University, uses cutting-edge technology including a state-of-the-art art projector for creating tranquil scenes, images or connect with family members via Skype. As well as this, the projector in the sensory room is Bluetooth enabled, allowing families of loved ones to display photos and videos to help recreate past memories.
