Dementia Care at Signature at Weybridge: A Place That Truly Feels Like Home

At Signature at Weybridge, dementia care is about far more than meeting daily needs. Our dedicated team works closely together to provide compassionate, personcentred support that helps residents live well, feel valued and truly at home. By taking the time to understand each resident as an individual, the team creates meaningful experiences in a warm, supportive environment where people can thrive.

We spoke to Justyna, Deputy Manager, and Aneta, Dementia Care Manager, about what makes life at Signature at Weybridge so special for residents and their families.

What Is Dementia?

Dementia is a term used to describe a range of conditions that affect memory, thinking, communication and the ability to carry out everyday activities. The most common type of dementia is Alzheimer’s disease, but other forms include vascular dementia, Lewy body dementia and frontotemporal dementia.

While symptoms vary from person to person, many people living with dementia experience memory loss, confusion, difficulties with communication and changes in mood or behaviour. Although dementia is a progressive condition, the right dementia care and support can make a significant difference, helping individuals maintain independence, dignity and quality of life for as long as possible.

At Signature at Weybridge, the team recognises that every person’s experience of dementia is unique. Care is tailored to the individual, focusing on understanding life history, routines and preferences, and providing calm, reassuring support at every stage.

A Strong Sense of Community

One of the defining features of Signature at Weybridge is its strong sense of community.

“For me, the team is incredibly important,” explains Justyna. “Supportive colleagues and strong relationships with residents make the home feel like much more than just a workplace.”

By getting to know residents’ interests, life stories and preferences, the team builds genuine connections that enable them to deliver meaningful activities and personalised care. Staff longevity plays a vital role in this, allowing relationships to grow naturally over time.

Aneta explains: “When loved ones walk into the home, it feels welcoming. You build relationships with residents, families and staff, and after many years it really does feel like a second home.”

Each member of the team follows a consistent routine that helps maintain the home’s high standards. Aneta begins every morning by visiting residents to say hello, checking how they slept and ensuring they feel comfortable. She also connects with the team to discuss any priorities for the day, helping everything run smoothly. Justyna oversees the daily operations of the home, ensuring residents receive high-quality, person-centred care while also supporting the team so they feel confident and valued in their roles.

Continuity of Care Through Long-Standing Staff

Many team members at Signature at Weybridge have worked there for years, creating a familiar and reassuring environment for residents living with dementia.

Aneta, who has been part of the Weybridge team for over 17 years, explains: “That continuity helps us truly understand each resident and support them in the best possible way.”
Justyna adds: “Seeing familiar faces is incredibly important for people living with dementia. It helps them feel safe, secure and comfortable.”

This consistency enables the team to tailor care to each resident’s personality, preferences and routines, supporting dignity and wellbeing every day.

Person-Centred Dementia Care

At the heart of dementia care at Signature at Weybridge is a deep understanding of each individual. The team works closely with families and healthcare professionals to develop personalised care plans that reflect residents’ needs and life experiences.

“Sometimes behaviour is a way of communicating,” explains Aneta. “When we understand someone’s life story, we can often find simple ways to help them feel calmer and more settled.”

This compassionate approach focuses on listening and observation, helping residents maintain independence, comfort and quality of life.

Supporting the Wider Community with Monthly Dementia Café

Signature at Weybridge extends its support beyond the home through its monthly Dementia Café, which welcomes residents, families and members of the local community.

“There aren’t many opportunities like this,” says Aneta. “It allows people living with dementia and their families to connect with others who truly understand.”

The café offers music, games, social activities and informal discussions, creating a relaxed environment for connection and support.

The Power of Music: Dementia Choir

Music plays an important role in the home’s dementia care approach. The weekly Dementia Choir brings residents together to sing familiar songs, encouraging social connection, mental stimulation and enjoyment.

“Music can unlock memories and lift moods instantly,” says Aneta. “You see smiles as soon as the music starts.”

Residents from across the home, including assisted living, are welcome to take part.

A Refurbished, Dementia-Friendly Environment

The dementia community at Signature at Weybridge has recently been refurbished to create a brighter, more supportive environment. Improvements include:

  • Brighter décor and enhanced lighting
  • Dementia-friendly furniture
  • Clear signage to support independent navigation
  • Comfortable communal areas
  • Quiet spaces for relaxation
  • Nutrition and hydration stations

“These features give residents more choice and confidence in their daily lives,” says Justyna.

Families have responded very positively, frequently commenting on how welcoming and homely the environment feels.

A Place That Feels Like Home

When asked to describe Signature at Weybridge, Justyna calls it “an amazing place to work.”
For Aneta, it’s simple: “It’s a place that feels like home.”

For residents and families alike, it’s this warmth, sense of belonging and genuine connection that truly makes all the difference.
