How We Celebrate a Happy Birthday!
Each home has a special way of celebrating a residents birthday but always with some cake, candles and a smile. We always take into account what each resident loves most e.g. small gatherings, a day out in the area, surprise parties or just a quiet day with some cake and family. Our private dining rooms can be booked for family visits and parties and if a resident’s guests wish to show family videos and images they can be played in the home’s cinema.
Birthday celebrations provide an opportunity to honour residents and let them know they are appreciated and valued. We include themes and hobbies they may like their favourite sweets, tv shows or activities. For some families, celebrating the birthday of a loved one living in long term care is an opportunity to gather the family together.
Some individuals with dementia may not be able to do well in large crowds or in unfamiliar places and some face difficulty with loud noises or demonstrate increased agitation at a certain time of day, but our teams work together to always consider different needs when planning each celebration.
Many of our homes have celebrated Milestone Birthdays like a 100th Birthday.
