How Care Homes Work With Charities

Signature at Bassett

Signature’s care homes support many charities from local communities to national. We know the importance of helping those in need from the kindness of our hearts and the residents’ too, often when there are coffee mornings for Macmillan the team and residents enjoy cupcakes and tea for breakfast wearing fun outfits of green!

It’s heart-warming knowing we can work together to make all our lives better. Signature’s collaborative care is always a positive influence for awareness in the local community and information and advice for us, residents, families if there’s a new cause. At Christmas time these donations or collaborations encourage glee and Christmas cheer.

Signature at Bassett’s Client Liaison Manager, Santa Bukovska, has seen first-hand how Signature contribute and how local charities visit Bassett for fun, rewarding afternoons. Bassett recently connected with Hampshire & IOW Dementia Support Charity; these connections are here to raise awareness in the local community and provide information and advice for us, residents, families. They also provide opportunities to attend their events for days out.

Just last summer there was a Communicare Tea Party and their service users were invited to meet our residents and to join in for entertainment. Signature at Bassett were also involved in the Southampton Dementia Festival charity; they are members of the committee for this charity and were involved in organisation and sponsorship for Southampton Dementia Festival.

Another brilliant contribution was with Hampshire & IOW Dementia Support Charity supported and facilitated activities for the Alzheimer’s Awareness week where they raised £121.84. They have welcomed representatives from Age UK, Wessex Cancer Trust, Carers in Southampton Charity and Mountbatten Hospice Charity.

Signature at Bentley House

Signature at Bentley House’s, Client Liaison Manager, Cassie Hinton, shared that the main charities they’ve worked with are Isabel’s Hospice since 2021. Bentley House have supported the charity with donations for events, and fundraising with Christmas stalls and selling Christmas cards or invites to attend dementia immersion sessions.

Isabel’s Hospice have visited the home for end-of-life training with the care team, also for occasional visits. We have sponsored their annual golf day in October 2021 with donations of food & beverages for the guests for the day, and two years running with the lights of love Christmas service; again with donations for attendees of the events. More recently Bentley House are looking at sponsoring the home nursing team for a week of two-hour home visits. Volunteers for Dementia UK have attended the home on several occasions and for the dementia immersion sessions, and assisted with us selling Christmas cards.

Next event at Signature at Bassett will be a Dementia UK Fundraiser dinner in March.
