We had a very interesting time at the Lightbox Gallery in Woking.

They had just put up an exhibition of artwork by The Women’s Support Centre for their New Beginnings Art Awards 2019 which aims to prevent women coming into contact with the Criminal Justice System again by promoting participation and achievement in the arts This year the theme was ‘Journey Within’ which really fascinated all of us as it gave real insight into their life in prison and want they have gone through.

We spent most of the time in that one exhibition and at the end of it were asked to vote on which piece and artist inspired us most. We whittled our contenders down to 6 artists and decided the best way would be for us to nominate one each, as they were all so worthy of winning.

The Residents came away feeling inspired. We will now have to wait to mid October for the winner’s announcement!
