Signature’s Coombe Hill Manor has recently introduced weekly guitar lessons to its expanding list of Activities.
Having already featured many music recitals, live performances and documentaries, Coombe Hill Manor decided to take the next logical step and provide beginner lessons for its Residents.
Private 1-2-1 and 1-2-2 sessions have been created to coax the budding musician that exists in all Coombe Hill Manor’s music fans, encouraging their natural talents and teaching them the skills needed for the journey to guitar excellence.
Our activities assistant, Jeremy, has devised a relatively simple and fun lesson plan for residents to follow, focusing on the rudimentary chords and strumming techniques, which can then be used to perform the classic She’ll Be Coming Round the Mountain when She Comes at the end of the course.
One of the Residents wants to learn a few songs in time for Christmas, so she can entertain her grandchildren at her family’s Christmas party. Another wants to be able to strum along to her favourite John Williams compositions.
As a treat, at the end of the tutorials, the Residents can either pick a classical guitar performance to watch or let the teacher channel his inner Jimi-Hendrix or serenade them with some solo noodling. They always pick the former and never the latter.
