The activities team and some members of the care team at South Lodge recently undertook some storytelling training in collaboration with Learning for the Fourth Age, who are a Leicestershire-based charity.
Training began on October 2016 when a local storyteller, Nicky Raffarty, came to South Lodge to engage our residents in the activity. The staff then attended an entire day training course with Nicky, so they could learn how to become storytellers in their own right.
Nicky spent time at South Lodge, supporting and guiding the staff members to gain their confidence and tweak their skills in relation to sharing stories.
On March 2017, a celebratory event was held at South Lodge to present all of the individuals who had taken part in the training. Several care homes participated, and it was lovely to get everyone together to share their successes and learn from each other’s experiences.
Everyone who had participated received their certificates during this event.
If you would ever like to come along to one of our storytelling sessions, please call Katy West on 0116 2748105.
