On Monday, 14th of August, local young people group, FOCUS, returned to South Lodge to encourage and support our residents to get creative and continue to maintain the gardening club sections of the grounds.
The young people supported our residents to make fairy houses, bird houses and log coasters in the morning. Each young person was paired up with a resident and some fantastic conversations flowed during this period.
After lunch, the volunteers then tended to the raised beds, weeding and tidying them up, before returning inside to have a coffee and catch up with the residents.
“Happy Birthday” was sung to one of the young volunteers. Another one wrote an article on her experience at South Lodge and said: “If I was asked to give tips to someone volunteering with the elderly, I would have to say that you must always support them, encourage them and try to make them believe in themselves a bit more. I would love to participate in a similar activity again. “
This project is set to continue in the October Half Term, February Half Term and Easter Holidays, meaning that the different generations will have many more opportunities to bond with one another.
