Activities Team, Residents and the local FOCUS charity in Leicester

intergenerational gardening at south lodge

Over the Easter holidays, the activities team decided they needed some help to tackle the gardening club sections of the garden. The weeds just seem to get everywhere!
For two whole days, they enlisted the help of the young people from a local charity, FOCUS, participating in their “Roots and Shoots” gardening project, to bring different generations together to engage in gardening based activities.
The young people did a fantastic job with weeding the raised beds, assisting residents to plant new seeds and seedlings. As well as with the varnishing of some of our bird boxes.
It was fantastic to see everyone working together for a shared goal. This was definitely something we would like to repeat in the future.
At the end of both days, the FOCUS group spent further time with the residents during our afternoon tea, in which everyone got the opportunity to reminiscence and come together socially to enjoy each other’s’ company.
What a fantastic achievement to have sorted out the entire gardening club section in two days and it was great to have such enthusiastic and energised members of the local community coming to help us out.
