Our dementia support community is designed to be helpful, not bewildering, and our dementia communities have a warm, colourful, stimulating ambience.
Even little things - like using cooking smells and having food discussions before mealtimes to encourage appetite - help dementia sufferers gain a better awareness of their surroundings.
As well as its own kitchen, giving the home a centre of activity, our communities have a garden area for residents to enjoy whenever they want.
Emotional dementia support
Dementia sufferers at Signature care homes are encouraged to be themselves, creating the atmosphere of an enriching and healthily eccentric household.
Love, comfort and hugs are freely given out when needed, and our dementia support team benefits from plenty of rewarding interactions. By believing and supporting each person's reality and understanding that everything a person says or does is total sense, our staff are able to empathise with our residents and offer them comfort and security.
High staffing levels means there is always time for our carers to spend quality time with our residents - whether it's enjoying a meaningful activity or just being good company.
Physical dementia support
Our dementia support communities are packed with things that have personal meaning. Rummage boxes, soft toys, dolls and tactile fabrics like velvet are all readily available for residents to connect with physical items.
Residents are equally encouraged to control their daily activities to nurture their sense of being, and a choice of calming and stimulating items ensures full exploration of their feelings.
Outside in our gardens - where residents are free to go unaided and unattended - we have more items to encourage activity, including a washing line and a shed packed with tools.
All this creates an environment where the feelings of every individual are nurtured, giving them a sense of being, and of belonging.
