Once people move into care homes, they don’t have the need to do any chores: cleaning, shopping or cooking. However, many of them actually miss doing these things.
We thought it will be a good idea to begin a lunch club, where residents can choose their menu, prepare the meal and set the tables.
This week, we tried what we like to call “The Twelve Lunch Club”. After everything was prepared, it was then served in the activities room.
First, we had a meeting in which the residents decided the menu and could even be directly involved in the preparation of the food.
Pat L, one of our residents who always comes to our knit & natter sessions – but only joins in with the natter because of arthritis in her hands – volunteered to help. It was lovely to see her enjoy herself, she helped cut up some vegetables, peel onions and also cut some leaf-shaped pastry to decorate the apple pie.
It was a lovely group of people. We invited two of our new residents, Jim and Barbara. It was a good way for them to meet other residents as well.
We will definitely do this again, as everyone made it clear they were looking forward to the next one.
