Signature Loxley Park Supports Canine Companions For Deaf People
Residents of Signature Loxley Park were treated to a visit from Rex who works for the “Hearing Dogs For Deaf People” charity. In addition to providing some excitement to the dog lovers within our community, these animals perform a vital service for people with hearing difficulties in the Sheffield area.
Hearing dogs provide deaf people with independence, confidence and companionship which helps relieve the stress, isolation, loneliness and depression that deafness can bring.
These quick learning dogs alert their owners to important household sounds and danger signals such as the alarm clock, doorbell, telephone and smoke alarm by nudging or pawing them. The dog then leads the person to the sound source or lays down to indicate danger such as a smoke alarm noise.
The charity has performed it’s sterling work for 30 years now and Signature Loxley Park members, their relatives and staff put together a donation to help fund the training of a puppy which can make a huge difference to the quality of life of someone with hearing difficulties.
Anyone wishing to learn more about this organisation or to offer a donation can do so by going to their website at http://www.hearingdogs.org.uk/
