Ben Pienaar is a talented back-row forward; Ben made his first competitive appearance for Tigers in the EDF Energy Cup tie at Northampton in December 2006 and was never on the losing side in his five starts during 2008/09, including the Heineken Cup quarter-final against Bath at the Walkers Stadium.
He made his first start for the senior side in international company against Argentina at Welford Road in February 2007, and added a further five first-team appearances in 2007/08 – including his first Guinness Premiership start at Worcester.
He gained first-team experience in two seasons with Bedford in National League One and played a leading role in the Tigers Development XV successes, helping them to the Guinness A League title in 2005/06 and to the final again 12 months later.
He began playing rugby at Langley School in Norfolk before moving to Gresham’s School and North Walsham RFC, and then to the Tigers Academy.
A Norfolk representative from U-14s to U-16s, Ben was capped by England at U-16 and U-19 level. He is also a former junior national champion at judo.
